Virginia and other news

As you know we have a houseguest for two weeks, She is from Torino, will be 16 in August, and is here to take ballet lessons and improve her English. She is very nice, and Nick and Laura are quite taken with her.
Today we went to PS 6 to meet the teachers and get some info about kindergarten. Nick behaved and so did Laura, and both were quite happy when I left them in the classroom with their teachers and classmates. We don’t know yet who their actual teachers will be they will let us know in August. We were also told that they still don’t know if there will be 5 or 6 kindergarten classes. Though we did find out that thanks to Joel Klein, the NYC Schools Chancellor, we will not be allowed to have assistant teachers anymore. Why he decided that this was a good idea when class size is at its highest is a mystery. All of you should be thrilled to know that the US soccer team beat Spain 2-0. This is an amazing victory as Spain is probably the best team right now.

Culinary Institute of America and twins

How are you all? How was the game on Sunday Chiara? Are more people sick? We enjoyed the weekend with you all very much.

Don is out mowing the lawn. Brenda is teaching Susi to knit. We spent an exciting time in Brockport, the Goodwill Store, Lift Bridge, lunch at Java Junction and then of course, Bittersweet. Don was successful at the Antique store, an old VW toy for Steve.

check my flickr site for more pictures.

Beautiful Ballet

B

After the bar work, then the floor adagio and a choreographed work, the modern dance class, consisting of Jo, Hannah and Susi did a dance of African origin. It was good.

Benifit Recital

For those of you coming to Chiara’s recital you should know that it is also a benefit, her piano teacher collects donations for an organization that provides aid to children whose mothers are in jail. Every recital has a theme; this year its pajamas if you so wish you can bring a pair of children’s pajamas to donate.

Brockport

Band Banquet

Hannah with the Band Directors. It was a really nice evening and quite emotional. Band has been central to Hannah in high school. She got one of the major awards--for dedication, it seemed, which certainly describes her well.

Jo and Toni with their sophomore letters.

Fellow trumpet Josh Briggs.

Seniors. Carly is on the right--she's coming down to NYC with Hannah.

With Mr. Myers, retiring Dean of Students. We'll miss him a lot.

Hannah receiving her award.($100!)

Nesting in the new bird home

The front walk is coming along. He may be able to finish today. On the whole I am pleased with it.

I am not sure what bird it is, I would guess Goldfinch, from my fleeting view.

Also I just watched the police raid the "First Church of Christ Scientist"

It was very exciting and made me wonder what kind of scheme people would run out of a church that would require a SWAT team.

A fun little political thing

I know that I've certainly forgotten about politics entirely, but it's really only a year until the political season heats up again. This is a neat piece that Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com writes every month. It ranks states with 2010 senate races from most likely to see a party switch to least likely. This month, Missouri tops the list with an open senate seat likely to go to democrats.

The rest of the site is pretty interesting, too. There isn't that much to talk about on a national scale right now, though.

What??

As you can see, I do not understand the system. The following post should read: Peony, first year it has bloomed. Then, Jazz band last week, Hannah's last 'gig' with them: Jo, far left, first row with bassoon. Hannah, 3rd from right, back row with trumpet.

More later as a back hoe is digging path for the front walk and I am off to the eye doctor.
