New Zip Code

Starting in July our zip code is changing. We will no longer be 10021 (the wealthiest zip code in the US), but will be 10075 (which, interestingly, will become the third poorest postal zone in the lower 48 states). For the status conscious on the Upper East Side this comes as a big blow. But I feel better knowing that we still share our zip code with our beloved mayor.

Message From Jo rocks

No it is not Daniel Raddcliffe, that was just a faze. Anyway, I have read two 200 page books in the last 5 hours or so. Last night I went to the library and got 11 books and 1 movie. Hannah got 12 books. I tried to out book her but I didn't see any books that I would like. When I logged on to the internet this morning it suprised me how fast it loaded or whatever. It was very exciting. Speaking of exciting I passed my french exam with a 98%, I beat Noah(along with most of my friends)!! I also did better on ELA than last year.

Tanglewood

We are leaving home soon. We will drive to the Menon's then with Kamala we will go to Lee (hotel) and Lenox (Tanglewood). Mark Morris Dance Fri. night and Garison Keilor Sat. Kam says that James Taylor will be on the show. Nice, evan though I must admit, I could not recognize his music.

Home Sunday, hopefully ahead of Chandran and Sara and darlings who are coming Sunday! Nice again!

goodbye, dial-up

Well, we finally got cable. It's incredible. I went straight to youtube, of course, to see various political videos, but ended up with music. It was like playing telephone. I started with Allison Krauss singing Carolina, and ended up with Van Morrison and the Cheiftans singing Goodnight Irene. The very best was the incredible Mahalia Jackson singing Just a closer walk with thee.I recommend it. Be sure to get the version at the Louis Armstrong tribute. There were several, but the others were kind of slick.

Blackout

We had a mini blackout this afternoon. It effected only the upper east side. Chandran and the kids were coming back from the West side at the time. Chandran said that crossing 5th Ave was quite an adventure. Luckily by the time he got to Park the power had been restored. Its hot and muggy and I can't wait to get out of the city.

The Best Show Ever

I am watching the Mrs. World pageant. It's in a snowy part of Russia. They just showed the contestants having a buffet dinner at the "Stalin Dachau" complete with a wax figure of Stalin sitting at the head of the table. Mrs. Malaysia says "This is the best part of the trip. This is a legend-the founder of Russia. And here I am in his dachau. He is the greatest leader who ever lived-just as he was a vewry bad man."

Answers to some of Kalyani’s questions

The spoiler news was in NY Times the other day. Apparently this ultra catholic crazy claimed he hacked into the Bloomsbury press computers. He discovered who dies and is making this info public on his web site. The people at Mugglenet say the way he did it sounds implausible.
The yellow frog is a stretchy frog that had been stuck to our ceiling last September. It had been put up there to tease Blacker and there it stayed till last Saturday.

hmm...

Staff week has begun. The only good thing about it is that Sam is here. The end.
People are like driving me crazy. I've been here a long time. Too long? Maybs.
The M+D thing is resolved.... my DH from a couple of years ago is coming back! Just like I wanted.
Ahhh stressed. Good night.

First Swim

This is slightly late for the first swim, but it was LOVELY. Not cold, not warm, just nice. This was enjoyed by Jo, Sus, Han and me. Kly kayaked.

It was a lovely day at the lake. The Menonites were there enjoying the lake from Lou's beach. I liked this better than from our breach, as they swim in full dress, and we are scantily clad in bathing suits. I feel a little awkward when they are on our beach and I feel compelled to swim when I wish on our own beach in my usual attire. There you are. They are very picturesque when they put their horses on their carts and trot off with their bonnets and handsome straw hats.

Madhu managed nicely, our first visit there after his surgery. That is good as we are going off for a long week end next week to Tanglewood!

Weekend Update

Hi all-Yesterday we took Sam up to Calumet-he was greeted enthusiastically by his friends. We then waited around (ahem) to see Eliza, who looked great. Phil, on the other hand, had his head shaved (by others-he seems to regret it). He looks fine, although I think the neo-nazis would also agree. Eliza seemed perturbed by the loud, some might say squealing, reunion surrounding her among last year's trainees, but I think she'll survive. It was hard to see Sam off again after such a short time, but I think he'll have a great summer.
Today Jim did another sprint triathalon-1/2 mile open water swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run. He did well-results not yet posted. Then after my cello "lesson", we went to LL Bean and bought a kayak for me. It's to use to aid Jim while he swims in Walden Pond, but I will also take solo trips on the Concord and Sudbury Rivers-am quite excited! See a lot of you soon.

Cyclone

We went to Coney Island yesterday with Isabella. We saw the Mermaid Parade, not as great as I expected. Chiara, Isabella and I rode the Cyclone. It was the first big rollercoaster ride for both, and my first in probably 15 years. I must admit it was scarier than I remembered. Chiara though it was “freaky”. When I asked fun freaky or simply scary freaky she said somewhere in between. Isabella though it was definitely fun freaky.
We will be in Brockport a week from today! We are all looking forward to it.
So Harry Potter fans what do you think of the spoiler and are you going to check out his web site?
The yellow frog that has been on our ceiling since last September came down last night.

School's Out For Summer

Susi and her busdriver, Glenn.
Glenn, a retired dairy farmer, said, "I'm not allowed to touch the children."

Noah gives himself rabbit ears after the ceremony.

He won the Willard Hunter Family Scholarship given to a girl and a boy with a "high cummulative average and at least one varsity letter"..."presented on the basis of good citizenship and positive attitude. The student must have shown leadership skills and ability while at BHS. Enthusiasm for school and communication skills are also considered." It came with $2500. We are really proud of him.

At the ceremony an honorary high school diploma was awarded to a local man who left high school to fight in WWII. He flew 29 missions over Italy. After being shot down he hid for 5 months until the area was liberated by the Scots. He thanked the Italian people, saying he never missed a meal.

lots of dramatics in music and dramatics

My department on camp is music and drama and we don't have a department head yet and tensions are running high. I freaked out a lot yesterday about it and things have generally just been worse than they have to be. Gah.

Today we had urban day camp orientation. There are three day camps in Hartford, New Haven and Brockton. I go to Brockton. Loved it last year. Orienation is a bit unneccessary for the veterans, in my opinion, but oh well.

Today I saw the most amazing rainbow I have ever ever seen. Everyone ran out onto the beach to see it. At one point it was a complete arch. Unfortunately I dind't get a picture of it at that point but I got a bunch of it before

Blogspot is being weird. I'll put more on flickr.

Leaving...again

So, after 10 days at home, I'm going to be joining Eliza at camp tomorrow and I will be there for the next 9 weeks.

And last night lightning struck about 200-300 feet down the street from us (hitting a transformer) and knocked our power out for a long time (I assume, we went to bed after watching the fountain, which I thought was pretty good, but mom didnt). My mother and I braved the streets and saw my moms cop buddy directing traffic and he told us that there had been flaming live wires on the road.

I hung out with Tucker for a while too

Recital

Mom played a Brahms intermezzo extremely well at her recital on Sunday. Here she is with her teacher, Rhea.
We are getting cable. I think this will mean I can upload a movie, as Suzanne did. That will be great. On the down side, it means the end of my electric hearts career, as that's what I do while I wait, but I don't just sit down to play hearts. Today I won with a score of 3--a personal best.
Happy Anniversary to those to whom it applies.

SHUT UP.

All these new people came today. And they won't stop talking . And squeling. And all us old folk want to sleep. And they are out there on the porch being stupid and not funny and too loud and playing music. Go awayyyyyy!!!

Today was jut weird. I don't remember half of it for some reason. Well, I probably could if I tried but I don't really want to.

Some pictures...

Today was longggg .Had to wake up at 6 am to be back at camp by 8:30. Worked. Disappointing lunch. Slush puppy (obvs). Cleaned out nasty camp trailers. Disappointing dinner. Ice cream for dessert though. Went to the lake that Laura's lake house is on and got bitten by a lot of bugs. Went to my friend's house for a little bit. Came back to camp.
On the way to my friend's, Laura and I saw a fisher!!! A fisher is a really creepy animal that looks like a cross between a badger and a wolverine (at camp we call them "badgerines"). They eat cats and they are creepy and "vicious" supposeedly. I almost ran it over. Thoguht it was a raccoon at first but it was moving very slowly so we got a good look at it. On the way back to camp we saw a deer. Quite the menagerie of animals tonight.

Memory lane

Greta (*) had her graduation party at the Tay house behind Cobb's Hill. It was relaxing, and the weather was perfect.

(*) I'm not including last names. Our cousin who doesn't want to be on the blog for job-related reasons (works with people who are potentially dangerous to his family) got me thinking about security a little.

Welcome home Sam!

Thursday, June 14, 2007

HEY.

SAM IS HOME!
and i am not. but that's ok because i will be soon.

what random crap did i get to partake in today? hmm let's see. i had to set up for a wedding. mopped. sorted wine glasses and champagne flutes. had a pb and j.

thank god for that pb and j because lnch was just SALAD and CHICKEN SOUP. usually they feed us foods containing at least 1000 calories a bite and this was just disappointing.

after lunch i got to hang out in snack bar for like hours. there is a lot of candy and soda in there.... yes....

then i had to put a tent together. then i yelled at dave chasse for not helping with said tent. then i showered. then i blow dried my hair. then i had dinner (turkey and mashed potatos thank god). then i went to watson's for slush puppies. then i had a conversation with the boy who works there about slush puppies (we have the same conversation everyday because laura and i go there everyday for slush puppies). then i found out that boy is not working tomorrow so we won't ahve the same conversation which makes me sad. then i made fun of bikers as it is "bike week" in new hampshire (worst week of the year) and they congregate outside the yankee smokehoue and waton's. then i wnet online for a while. then i tlaked to phil for a while. then phil went to colin's house. then i talked to sam. then i wrote this poorly written paragraph!!!!!!

it is soooo cold. i like how loud the waves are though. everyone is off watching jesus camp but i spent too long talking to phil that i mised the beginning adn i'm too scared of the dark to walk there alone.

k i'm gonna go watch the starter wife i think.

love love.

Message from Jo rocks

You know what, Eliza, I actually think you win today because I couldn't be more excited in my life. Okay so the begining kinda sucked becuase my friend(we'll call her sally) won't talk to me 'cause apperently I gave her a dirty look and was upset that I was reading during lunch. 1) I hardly have time to read anymore because I'm so busy2)I didn't give her a dirty look it was a qeustioning look, I just raised one eyebrow 3) ask anybody at school and they will tell you never mean, well I mean we joke around and all,but this never happens and because I'm so quiet in school no one has a reason to be mad at me. 4)When I read I sometimes zone out what other people are saying cause I like to read and I don't like to upset people when I read so I have to look up and the face I had on was just the one I was wearing at the time ,I didn't mean anything by it, we'll probably make-up tomorrow, cbesides who said reading and not talking was a bad thing, I like quiet. Any way my day got better, believe it or not, during chorus. I know right, shocking!! Mr. Steves gave us chocolate and it was good because it was my last day singing in Brockport ever. After school me and Hannah went to a Hrry Pottre meeting at Lift Bridge. I can't tell what will happen, but I will tell you this I almost peed my pants I was so excited. Also I had fun in ballet. I will miss Nancy this summer!! Well it is 9:31 and I've been told to go to bed, like, 3 times so I better go!!

My Trip to the Bahamas

So, I just got back from the Eleuthera yesterday after 101 days of school. It was long and tough and whatnot and it wasnt what I think anyone would expect. But anyways I'll start at the beginning, with a daily schedule perhaps.

6:00 (more like 6:25)-Wake up
6:30-morning circle around the flag, sing the Bahamian national anthem, announcements, split up into excercise
6:30-7:30 Excercise, I was on run track, but there was swim track too, but most of the time we would do excercise as a group, like run swims, high rock run/jump offs, psychos etc.
7:30-8:15 chores/personal space, clean the dorm, do some dishes, make my bed then shower and change
8:15 breakfast, the best meal of the day for us, they gave us pancakes and french toast and I had grits for the first time...then many, many more times
9:15-12:15 Classes
12:15 lunch bleh
1:15-4:15 classes
4:15-6:00 free time, well usually, sometimes manual labor or cleaning for various reasons
6:00-7:15 Dinner circle then dinner
7:15-10:00 Study hours
10:00-10:30 get ready for bed then lights out

So thats what our days looked like when we had normal academics which was 8 weeks I think, a few weeks in the beginning then a 5 week academic stretch, then one more after parents weekend, then finals. But on Wednesdays and Fridays we had scuba, legacy projects (manual labor that other semesters will remember us for), junkanoo, advisory time and community outreach where we hung out with our local buddys at the primary school or middle school. and we had Sundays off until 6:00.

But we also had a 3-day and 8-day kayak trips, 8-day was tough, and my 2 day solo during 8-day was filled with sleep and sunburns, but i came out with a nice tan and probably a few less pounds. Then down island trip was a 3 day road trip eating everywhere on Eleuthera and exploring the settlements, it was a lot of fun, I was with my advisor Jill and my 8-day kayak group for it.

I'm missing a lot, but im so used to this stuff that I feel like you guys already understand it. So i'll just go through some pictures and explain them I guess.

Me and my best friend eva Danny, at advisory dinner, drinking the only milkshake I had in 3 months

In response to overwhelming demand from her public (Eliza asked), S.C.M. models her Salzgurg maquillage.

Happy Birthday Brenda

It is amazing that Brenda and I have become so old! We are both happy and healthy and lucky. We have terrific families and 'work' and lives. This is by way of saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENDA!

I sort of apologize about including myself in the greetings, but we are Sisters, and not a thing can come between us....

Ok Jo can win today...

Today was wayyy better. Instead of maintenence, I just did stuff for Karl. I laminated for like 2 hours. I got to play with a golden retriever puppy when I got bored... sooooo cute!! Stapled stuff to the cabins. Etc. Tomorrow will be the same, I hope. Tonight we got slush puppies (I am ADDICTED to those lately) and watched Rocky Horror but Phil fell asleep adn I was tired and everyone started watching Sin City (blah) so Phil went to sleep and I'm going to watch Monk. Again. Kayla is watching Sex and the City and I can tell which episode it is already... pathetic.

Ok gooood night.

Rain day

We had a lot of rain today. It caused a fair amount of traffic on 79th street. The transverse often gets flooded. At one point we could see 13 busses lined up outside.
The twins did not get to swim today. When Chandran went to the pool to meet the class no one was there. Apparently the rest of the day was a disaster, Chiara was also with him, she had been promised a day at the Natural history museum. They went to Rosa Mexicano instead.
I went to Bloomingdale's, had my makeup done.

Message from Jo rocks

Dear Eliza I still win. at least you get to be outside were it is a lot cooler because inside people are talking a lot and are moving a lot I would rather clean out rotten food than try to learn with people complaining and being noisy. At least your doing something productive we didn't even learn anything, we just get yelled at for talking. Well not me. You get to work with people you can actually tolerate along with each other. My friends all hate each other, well I admit not as much as before. When it is just me and someone else all they do is talk about how much they annoy each other. Any way I can handle the gross stuff. Yesterday or the other day I had to empty mom's garbage in her bathroom, which by the way has no bag and is over flowing with feminine products. Oh I just thought of something that beats all, I had band. There are around 120-30 kids in our band. Try fitting that into 1 room that just barely fits and sitting there playing and talking and did I mention that is the hottest room in the whole school and is incredibly boring because the songs we play are incredibly stupid. Okay your day sucked too, but my day is up there also. Omg I hit the ball in softball which never happens and I can't even kick the ball in kickball, no lie.

Wow I only used to exclamation points today.
Hi, it's Hannah again. I'm sorry that I left out Europe for things happening this summer. It felt rude to brag that much, but I'll brag now. I get to go to Europe this summer! Haha! I also think I'm going to Rennes and Paris with my french teacher next year for a very sort exchange trip. (I'm so excited about it. Me and my friends in France. Scary, huh. But Jolene won't be able to come cuz she's moving. Everytime I start to think about her leaving, I start to cry). Then I'm going to Disney with the high school band and orchestra. I'm done now. Bye!

Oh no

Dear Jo,
I win.
I'd rather be doing homework than working in the hot sun for 8 hours with NO water. The water was turned off on the other side of the street. I really thought I was going to pass out for like 5 minutes there. And the maintence guys are old and cranky and not used to girls and they yell at you like you're a guy. Got sunburned. Got mosquito bitten. Had to carry hundreds of chairs, dozens of tables. SO BAD. And the FRIDGE. I have never cleaned up anything nastier than that fridge today. It was sick. The only good part of today was grilled cheese for lunch. I had 4 pieces. BADDD day. Like my only bad day I've had this year at camp.
Tonight was good though. We went to North Conway and played on the playground and I beat everyone at teatherball and we went to the 99 (restaurant).
Whyyy am I still awake? I'm gonna watch some Monk and go to sleep. If I have to do maintence again tomorrwo I quit camp. Sooo get ready for that.Just kidding.
SAM IS COMING HOME THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW!!! I showed people pictures of him, and Phil especially was like, holy crap he looks awesome. "He will be beating girls off with a stick this summer" -Kathy.
Rain rain rain.

>Hey everybody!! Hey Eliza I bet your day wasn't as bad as mine. I had French which was totally boring and all we did was study for our exam a week from today which Mrs. Dumas expects me to get 100%.Not happening. I suck at french I just do my homework. Anyway, I also had to deal with my friends scolding me for not going to the dinner dance. Then I had to my french homework during social studies because Mr. Akers made everybody who didn't do their homerwork because only 5 people did their homerwork out of 22. We did that instead watching a video on the 1970's which I was looking forward to watching because I have to do a project on the 70's. Then to top it all off I had chorus, where Mr.Steves goty mad at the people next me because they weren't singing. Then we had to listen to our judge( recording) from our competion. You couldn't undrestand anything. It was mad awful. I am also wickedly tired and was disrupted from my slumber because mom just wanted me to go downstairs with everyone else so I slept on the couch. Omg your not going to believe who we saw at the jazz fest. We saw Hannah's riend Claudine and Devan, both of which are insanely taller than Hannah who is now shorter than everybody in Rochester, meaning her friends.Right now I am listening to Get up offa that Thing while typing and dancing. I can multitask, can you? Oh yeah beat that Eliza. What now!!

Hi everybody, it's HANNAH! I don't use my own username thing cuz i don't ever have anything to say, but today was my first day of no-school-study-for-exams. I read and studied, how about that. But I also went on Mugglenet.com and became very excited about Harry Potter for a very long time. It comes out on July 11! Thats 2 whole days before the original release date (pause for happy excited squeal). So many things are happening this summer. 1)I'm turning 16 2) Deathly Hallows 3)Order of the Phoenix 4)Stardust (movie) 5)Eclipse (Jo just broke our best scissors due to spaz attack over Harry Potter). Eclipse is the final installment in a trilogy about vampires and werewolves. They are amazing. The first one is called Twilight and the second one is called New Moon. They are quite excellent (and by Stephanie Meyer, if anyone wants to read them) OMG speaking of the Jazz Fest, DAD and I are going to see Wynton Marsalis on Thursday after my Math B exam. By the way, I'm going through a bit of a vampire phase. If anyone has read any good vampire books, please let me know. Bye!

I took this picture of the Castle at Old Fort Niagara. The one below is the side wall to the grounds of the fort.

We're up to 100 posts!

That's my friends Lizzy, Kathy, and Colin. And me. Obvs.

Today was BAD. Had to put up tents all day. This is usaully the maintenence guys job but they let 3 girls help them today. Wish they hadn't; it sucked. I am soooo exhausted. Also had to clean out this really old fridge that had like old rotting stuff in it. I am not paid enough for these things reallllllly. I almost threw up from the smell, it was so nasty.

All my friends + Phil get to do WFR. I'm already a WFR so I don't have to do the course again but I wish I was!!

Dinner soon. I'm hungry.

Did you know...

I just discovered this today, Maybe you all knew already. If You click on a photo you can view it larger and then you can drag it on to your desktop.

Lake Shakespeare

I think that opinion is lined up pretty straight behind Popop:
- Monologues, or scenes with two, self-chosen.
- In the past year or so, the line load has been in the 60-120 range, and I would recommend staying within that.
- Everyone is free to direct herself, or to find an outside director.
- Lacking the whole-play constraint, no editing needs to be done, but can be.
- Kamala, Kalyani, and Sara will perform "Brush up on Your Shakespeare" as the first act curtain closer.
- I think that other adults might be allowed to do something.
- Shakespeare or Shakespeare-related only, please.
- Next year, we get back to grinding out the remaining 26 plays.
Sound OK?
