Spring Rituals

New plants
Originally uploaded by sarapicassa

This past weekend Nicky and Chandran got their spring hair cuts and on Sunday we went to get the flowers for the terrace. The pumpkin plant is from the seeds of our Halloween pumpkin. I was also glad to see that one of last year's plants had survived the winter.

day 6

since i reported so faithfully my bad days, i will finish with what appears to be my 2nd good day. i am still hunting an pecking with one hand which is really inefficient. i guess this starts the long slow recovery, probably marked with impatiences.

day 2

i am in a hunt and peck mode: feeling to the arm during the night. i took the pain pill as suggested, now a dull ache. dr.miller said he thinks the repair will turn out well, took an extra hourin surgery. the rest is up to me. no driving is the biggest handicap, i should live in nyc. the exercises start tomorrow.

interesting thing: i had an incredible phantom arm yesterday. it was so real. i felt i was raising it from the elbow 90 degrees. i would reach with my good arm to lower it, not there. the phantom arm moved closer to its expected location all day. then about 9 p.m.. when i was going to sleep my fingers would curl onto my other hand, but not uncurl. i started worrying about its being permanent. i was relieved to find it works this morning.

Good Saturday

Madhu and I had the great pleasure to hear Patricia Polacco speak at Lift Btidge. She told many of her stories, all based on her own experience. She has written and illustrated 77 children's books. One of the fascinating aspects of her life is the misery she experience as a child because she could not read, until a member of the last standing real heros of the world , a teacher, Mr. Felkar, recognized her vision, or lack of, how she sees letters. She could always draw. The above picture is from her book THE KEEPING QUILT, and she is the center. She was asked many questions, such as where do you live (small farm in Michigan, has goats), how do you fix your hair, how many books have you written, are they true (the stories are all true, but some of the facts are changed). She told many of her stories which are often touching, there were not many dry eyes in the room, except among the children.
This job was long time coming. I hired B.L. and his wife to work in the yard. Yesterday they cleaned out around the Norway Spruce (I identified those trees as such, and will call them that until I learn otherwise). I am happy about the openness there and now just need to keep it that way. I plan to mount the lovely tuned up John Deere this afternoon.

Easter in Rhinebeck

Anna, Laura and Lucy.

Maya and Guy invited us over for Easter. We went up on Saturday after piano lessons. Stopped by Jessica's first. Baby Grace has grown, she sits up by herself and is the cutest baby, friendly and happy. Calum and Jessica are doing well, Calum's mother, Morag and his brother Andrew and his family were also visiting. Andrew has 9 year old twins and a very interesting job, he is the maker of the Pumba puppet for the Lion King shows. He is also responsible for their upkeep. After, we went over to Maya's. The kids got along extremely well. This morning we went to church. The priest was South Indian. We had a great lunch and headed home. The Twins got to dye eggs again. Maya had brown eggs, and the colors worked out well.

Easter Morning @Lake House

The beach is wide, mice had headquarters elsewhere, only occasional visits here, however, squirrels had many pine nut meals upstairs (?). It was 25 degrees cooler at the lake then at home. we have another nice restaurant nearby, Carlton Inn on rte 98. A few more shots on my flickr account.
