Important Message from Jo rocks

Happy Leap year Day!!!

Concert plans as of now:

So far I have at least one extra ticket that you guys can designate to one of your friends because one of mine can't go. So that's one for Sam, Eliza, Trish, someone else, one of my friends, and me.

As far as getting there:
Mom and Popop will be driving down to New York Thursday the 13th. I'll catch a ride with them. I will then take a bus from New York to Boston Saturday (15th) morning. The show is that day. At some point then, I will find a way home. We haven't really discussed that yet.

Does that work?

What should we do?

What should we do about people who post links on our comment space?
We have two choices: we can restrict comments to people with permission, or we can just be sure not to follow the links, and I'll continue to just delete them.

Snow

A few days ago we had snow, the first and probably last real snowfall in the city.

Chiara is building the snowman.

Felix --> NYC!

Correct me if I'm wrong:
7 right: Sara, RC
5 right: Chiara, Eliza
4 right: Kam
3 right: K2, Sam, Noah, Jo, ELM
2 right: Popop
-For the Buster, maybe we could get a special wine glass "for" Buster.
-This year's first & last place finishes show more clearly than ever how unclouded is the judgement of the ignorant. We only saw Ratatouille.

Post our decisions as comments on the blog.

Felix?

I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work, but try this:

1) With a list of the nominees handy, go to: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddhq8m4q_1g6jhb5hm&pli=1
2) Take a column, replace "name" with your name, and fill out the cells with your picks.

I'm not sure about whether to publish the document now or after it's been filled in. I'll try it now. If I'm screwing this up, please take over.

Snow

We are finally getting snow.
Welcome home Hannah!

Thanks, Suzanne!

Perfect.
I started a table on Suzi's link. I think that those with permission can add their names to the table below the actor they've chosen. Someone needs to complete the actor names, however, and give out permissions. That would be me, Kam, Sara at this point.

~celebrity gossip~

Ready for some Madhu-blog exclusive celebrity gossip (that no one will probably care about except Mom):

My best friend from camp's roommate works in the administrative office at Ithaca College and was in a three-way call yesterday with Dina and Michael Lohan (Lindsay Lohan's parents) because Michael Lohan owes the school $17,000 for their son's tuition and they got in a bigggggg fight.

Also, we just had a fire drill and I am freeeeezing.

felix.

what are we doing about the oscars?

Allergy Update

I have been patch-tested to see why I have become so red and itchy. It turns out that I am allergic to nickel, chrome, leather, and this other chemical that the dermatologist had never heard of. The funny part is that when we renovated, we got brushed nickel and chrome for all the hardware. The other joke is that I'll have to drop my support for Obama and try to find a candidate who can promise "Paper Currency We Can Believe In."

I was asked for photos of Chiara for the PS 6 yearbook. I found these from her kindergarten class.

Norayan, Elissa, Kalyani and Rajan came over for dinner last night. It was a lovely. All the kids got along very well making the evening fun and relaxing for the adults. They were obviously all enjoying their NY stay. They had gone to the Guggenheim earlier in the day and where exited about the exhibit.

Dropkick Concert

Okay, so I got up early today (12PM) and bought tickets to the concert successfully. I have six tickets: One for me, one for Sam, one for Trish, one for Eliza, and two for kids at school if they want them. If they don't want them, I'm sure I can find some people to go.

Yay :)

Off to Florida

Jim, Sam and I are off early in the am. Jim has his marathon on Sunday and Monday, we go to Key Largo. Am looking forward to warmth. We are also going deep sea fishing which I have never done.
Dropped the dogs off w/ the groomer who will board them at her house. Tintin was happy to see his sibs. Tucker, not so much. Tintin has THE appointment next Monday. As Sam said, not a good month for the Tinner. Maybe he'll become a Dad this week while staying w/ all the other dogs (including his sister). I can only assume he's too young.

Mont St Micheal was the most beautiful place I've ever been. We had a new guy with us today, who is a student English teacher or something. He is from Wales and he speaks Welsh. He said something to me in Welsh when I asked him what it sounded like.
I wanted to buy a very reasonably priced dagger, but Celia talked me out of it.
Tonight the kids took us out again and I had smoke breathed in my face. It gave me a really bad coughing fit and I had to walk away for a while. Baptiste, who blew the smoke, said he was sorry, but I don't believe him.
It's almost 12 am. 5 more days.

Hannah 3

I'll just copy and paste:
The French girls freaked when we told them that their winter was what April will be like when they get to the US.
School was really great. First we had to sit through French, but that was fine. Then we had English class. We listened to Obama's "Yes we can" speech turned into a song and we had to fill in the blanks of words. We knew them all. Then we had to go over the historical references in the speech. The teacher used us whenever the class didn't have an answer. We also went to a philosophy class where we sat in a circle and asked each other questions about how the schools are different.
We went shopping after lunch. I bought myself a jacket and a necklace, and Jo and Susi some jewelry.
Tomorrow we go to Mont St. Micheal. Shopping in French is faire du shopping, and faires means to make or to do, so when the translate us they tell us we will make shopping. It's kinda cute.

My Spring Break Plan

So this is what I envision:

Actually first a little background..

Dropkick Murphys are a Celtic punk band based out of Boston. Every year they do a series of St. Patrick's Day shows. They tend to sell out almost instantly (they haven't not sold out a show in Boston since the mid 90's). They're a lot of fun.

They just added a show in Lowell on the 15th of March which is a Saturday. Tickets go on sale this coming Saturday. Dependent on whether or not I can get tickets I would like to come down and see them. Would anybody else (i.e. Sam) like to come? I'm hoping to get a ride down with someone from here if I can. It would be a lot of fun. Next year I hope to make it to the actual show on the 17th which is, in general, the most exciting show of the year for them.

Let me know your thoughts on the idea.

Oh and the band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are opening for them. They have the song Me and Mia which is recognizable, I feel.

Love,

Noah

The beach was very disturbing. There were A LOT of graves, and some French groups were being disrespectful.
She had a lovely lunch sent by her host family.

The old city of Rennes is the most beautiful place she's ever seen.
Young French smokers roll their own.

Great Weekend

Had such a nice weekend in NYC. Dinner at The Place was very nice (thank you. Mom and Dad) then spending so much time w/Suzanne was great! Enjoyed Spring Awakening; thanks for the CD. Suz. Also enjoyed hearing Nicky's (very loud) rendition of I've Been Working On the Railroad.
I have a new idea for the Oscars-money!! Everyone who enters puts in one dollar, and the winner takes the pot. Even if it's just us and the Hendricks, it would be around a whopping $20!!

Nick’s World

Nicky loves to take photos. These are a few of the many.

Really nice NYC trip

It was especially nice to have Suzanne with us!

Sunset from 120 E 79th and 1169 Reed Rd. (Met actually)

And gosh, we were happy with Chiara being accepted at the Steiner school!

Schools

Just thought I'd mention it on here if anyone hadn't heard. I heard from URI (university of rhode island) and Ithaca college in the last week, and got accepted into both. URI will give me a 32k scholarship and a double in the best dorm if I go there. I'm still waiting to hear from University of Delaware, University of Mass-Amherst, University of Vermont, University of Rochester, RIT, Syracuse and Northeastern, I should hear from most mid February to March.

Chiara's in!

Chiara got into the Rudolf Steiner school. There were only a couple of spots open, and we are tremendously proud of her. Since I first saw the school, I have felt that it was perfect for her. Chiara is happy, though I don't think she was feeling the pressure of the whole process, thankfully, and so is not feeling the depth of relief that Sara and I are.

Just something to make me feel a little better

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Cornell_University_people

Oh, and Mom: You graduated with Anne Coulter. Class of '84 if I'm not mistaken?

Hannah's pictures

We're getting Hannah ready for her school trip to France, so we cleared out her camera. Here's a few of her pictures from last summer. She has a lot of good ones.

Guests

Madhu and Janice are staying with us for a few days. Suzanne and Eliza joined us for dinner. We spent the later part of the evening watching CNN for the election results.
Thank you Madhu Chhibbers for the vests and Hero Rat sweatshirt. The twins had great fun looking through all the pockets.

I know how little you guys care for videos but I had to

I also highly recommend the Obama NH primary concession speech video that was remixed into a music video with a bunch of famous people.

More to Mom than to anybody else

I still read your netflix queue (creepy I know) and I want to know how the Giuliani Time movie is. It looks interesting.

Also, I recommend 3:10 to Yuma. It's fun to see Russel Crowe as a bad guy.

wow

Pretty darmed exciting super bowl game!! Sorry Kam.

Happy Birthday Kamala!

We really ought to do a Super Bowl wager, no? I was thinking something like: NY wins, you get a Yankee logo tattoo, and vice versa. I'm open to suggestions.
Chandran

Chiara's Birthday

at the 77 street subway station

As usual Isabella, Ally and Kelly celebrated Chiara’s birthday with her. We all went To Rosa Mexicano for lunch. Then I took the girls to see National treasure. They had a great time. Chandran took the twins home.

This is for Don, or tree trimmer

The apple trees look especially nice with the snow. Actually Mark or Glori , there is not that much snow, we had an ice storm yesterday, then it snowed on top and so the trees are coated with ice, then snow. It is beautiful, and luckily not wind to cause the limbs to fall. Oh, no sun today either.

Buster in the snow.

He loves it.

Jhumpa Rules!

Just finishing the advance copy of Jhumpa Lahiri's new book of short stories. She is so incredibly talented-the Jane Austen of our age. I also love that so many of the locations are around Boston. Plus she's gorgeous. Oh well.

this is actually not noah

ann coulter likes hillary over mccain. and sooo do i! fancy that. although this endorsement makes me want hillary a little less.

This one is for Hannah & Jo

You may already know this:
Book 3 now officially has a name - BRISINGR! Christopher Paolini explains, "BRISINGR is one of the first words I thought of for this title, and it’s always felt right to me. As the first ancient-language word that Eragon learns, it has held particular significance for his legacy as a Dragon Rider. In this new book, it will be revealed to be even more meaningful than even Eragon could have known."
Random House has changed the release date of Brisingr from September 23, 2008 to September 20, 2008, after an out-pouring of enthusiasm from book sellers and fans to hold midnight release parties on Friday night, September 19th. The book will now go on sale at 12:01 AM on Saturday, September 20th, 2008.
Brisingr will have an initial first print of 2.5 million copies - the largest first print of any Random House children's book. An audio version of Brisingr> will release simultaneously with the book itself.

Ice

The front window coated with ice. Kalyani did not go to Ithaca for lunch with Noah. However, she did go to Rochester for breakfast.
