Here's Fun.

Russell F. Hewitt's grandparents were definitely John J. and Julia Rice Bacom of Abingdon, Il. Julia has a very clear death record, (1923 in Abingdon). She was born in 1839 to John Rice and Susannah Courtney Rice of Dover, Kentucky. John and Susannah's marriage bond (1823) was posted  by Robert Courtney, presumably Susannah's father. A Robert Courtney and Jane Wishard were married in Mason County, Kentucky in 1796. The census of 1810 has a Robert Courtney of Mason Kentucky with the following household: 2 adults, 7 kids (3 boys, 4 girls) and one slave.

That's very cool, but my takeaway from that is going to have to be that our ancestors owned slaves.
