T'08

We managed, tried some new things, it was nice. Sara and I peeled chestnuts for the dressing. I opened a pomegranate. Both firsts for the dressing. Noah mashed the potatoes, Chandran carved the turkey.

Readers all...

Please note, that Rochester Oratorio Society, of which I am a member has worked out a deal with Barnes & Noble that we will recieve 10% of all purchases this Saturday and Sunday, (11/29 and 11/30). However, before making the purchase, inform the cashier of this number:

272641
.

This is supposed to work in any B & N in the country. I am curious if it truly is true! Let me know if you try it. Last year the ROS earned more than a thousand dollars. This year, I am part of the group singing in our Pittsford B & N.

(I know, we have our favorite book store, and it is not B & N, you all probably do also. Our favorite bookstore is giving 25% off of hard covers this very same week end, not bad.)

Thanks!

the doll

I did it, I finished the doll in time for the fair. Not that it really mattered as I bought it. It was a rewarding experience I will definitely do it again next year. The fair was lovely and chaotic.

A visit from Nonno

My dad was in town this week. He arrived Tuesday and left this evening to go to NJ with my sister. It was very nice to have him stay with us. I think he also enjoyed it. I hope he will come again soon. Last night we went to the wedding reception of his old friend. It was a very interesting occasion. It took place at the UN, in the delegates lounge. It was a lovely affair Tony Bennett sang! Still it was odd considering the fact that his first wife died less than a year ago.

I'm hooked!

Just ran into the bookstore to buy the third in the Twilight Series (in hard cover!!)even though I was late for an appt.. Have read the first two, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. So, young nieces and offspring, what do you think about the casting?-I almost picked up the magazine devoted to all things about the production. I still think Anne Rice rules the vampire world (in spite of her recent religious conversion), but Meyers knows how to leave you hanging.

Weekend visit

Janice, Madhu and Jo came down this weekend. It was a fun visit. Friday night we went to see Garth Fagan at the Joyce, it was good as always, afterwards we waited for the dancers and Garth to come out. Eliza, Jo, Chiara and I did not stay long as we hoped to see Dan Radcliffe. When we got to 44 st at 11:00 it was a mob scene. We could not see a thing. We tried again last night and went early (9:30), Janice was with us this time. It was worth it. Yesterday Chiara had a soccer game; it was raining so only Chandran went with her. I had told them the wrong time. They were an hour early, so Chiara played two soccer games in the rain. Jo and I took the twins for a walk in the park. It was beautiful and wet. Laura and Nick got drenched.

Massa update

Last night with 98% in, Massa led by about 4,000 votes. There are about 12,000 absentee ballots. Everyone thinks Massa has won, including local press and the AP, but there hasn't been any concession or declaration of victory. In fact Kuhl was lamenting that there wasn't a "decisive victory." Me too, Randy.

!!!!

Jim is an Iron Man!

Jim's race went well. He finished in 11 hours, 24 minutes which met his goal of breaking 12 hours. He came in 690th out of 2230ish contestants and 76th out of 200 something in his age group, but as he said, what was nice about this race was that it was about finishing, not winning. Chuck, Cynthia and I had a nice time-I participated in my personal triathlon of sleeping, tanning, and reading and also feel pleased with the results.

you can vote however you like

since I think most of you won't know, this is the song they're parodying: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQJACVmankY&feature=related

lyrics:

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

(McCain supporters)
McCain is the man
Fought for us in Vietnam
You know if anyone can
Help our country he can
Taxes droppin low
Dont you know oils gonna flow
Drill it low
I'll show our economy will grow

McCain's the best candidate
With Palin as his running mate
They'll fight for gun rights, pro life,
The conservative right
Our future is bright
Better economy in site
And all the world will feel our military might

(Obama supporters)
But McCain and Bush are real close right
They vote alike and keep it tight
Obama's new, he's younger too
The Middle Class he will help you
He'll bring a change, he's got the brains
McCain and Bush are just the same
You are to blame, Iraq's a shame
Four more years would be insane

Lower your Taxes - you know Obama Won't
PROTECT THE LOWER CLASS - You know McCain won't!
Have enough experience - you know that they don't
STOP GLOBAL WARMING - you know that you won't

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA
Stick with McCain and you're going to have some drama
We need it
HE'LL BRING IT
He'll be it
YOU'LL SEE IT
We'll do it
GET TO IT
Let's move it
DO IT!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

I'm talking big pipe lines, and low gas prices
Below $2.00 that would be nice

But to do it right we gotta start today
Finding renewable ways that are here to stay

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA,
Stick wit McCain you gone have some drama
MORE WAR IN IRAQ
Iran he will attack
CAN'T BRING OUR TROOPS BACK
We gotta vote Barack!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Election

I felt tense all day yesterday. I took food out to Noah's campaign. They were excited to see vegetables. I got up early and voted. There was a line at 6:10, but not out the door.

Halloween

(In reverse order.)
The volunteer makes the ultimate sacrifice; Ewa's pumpkin; recycled (!) and store-bought (!!) costumes; and Dr. Spector tells a traditional halloween medical joke:
"I had a patient who fell into an upholstery machine. Luckily he is fully recovered."

We went to Isabella's house for Halloween. This photo was taken after we got home.
