Rome V
We had a great time today at the Vatican. When we arrived at St. Peter's, I was pretty amazed by the line, and we began to revise our 'no guide' policy. Then we met a lovely Venezuelan girl from Miami, very persuasive, and before you know it, we were plugging in our earpieces. This turned out to be a good plan, because the guide was really pleasant and funny. When crossing the street, she told us to look straight ahead and "don't let the drivers know you're afraid to die". The rest of the party were pleasant, also, one couple from Venice, so everything was in two languages. We were almost 4 hours with her.

Rome IV
We walked a lot today. We went to the Galleria Borghese. Very small, a lot of good stuff, especially a David by Bernini and St Gerolamo by Carravagio. We had the best meal yet at Mario's near Hotel Hom, Sara's recommendation. Then we went to see Franca. She seems very well and cheerful. She likes (I believe) where she lives. She looks good. She thinks of Sara and family every day (I believe). She regrets that I, unlike my chiamo brother, speak no Italian. We brought her chocolates, and she brought us chocolates. She showed us around the house. The veranda is so lovely.
I think pizza tonight.

Rome III
Today the weather continued beautiful. It's sunny and about 55. We spent hours wandering in the forum, then went to the Capitoline museum. Ashwani rested a bit, and I went to the Crypta Balbi museum. This was a theater complex built in 37 bc. It's beneath a busy street, and you'd hardly know it was there. A lady I asked for directions didn't, even though it was less than a block from her shop. Anyway, most of what's been excavated is a monumental public latrine. A hundred-seater, or close. There were also a lot of exhibits of evey day items from later periods. I enjoyed the needles.
Today we had our first bad meal near the Campodoglio. Last night we went to a fish place recommended by the front desk. We didn't
Order right, but it was good. I had fried baby squid. We've had some surprisingly good food in touristy spots. Yesterday at lunch near the collosuem I had a grilled head of radicchio that was fabulous.
Jo, if they came out, post the pictures Daddy and I sent from the museum.

Rome II
Today we visited churches, according to Sara's recommendation, then according to anything we walked by. The French church has a Caravaggio. We also went to the Pantheon, the Colloseum, Trevi, whatever else we happened to walk by. Also, again at Sara's recommendation, the palazzo Doria Pamphilj, which was lovely. Especially the bathroom. It made me think of the prefects' bath at Hogwarts. I checked all the school groups for Tomas, but no luck. Maybe in St. peter's tomorrow.
Rome
We had a lovely first day. After checking in we walked around and ended up at Piazza Navonna, where we had lunch in an ultra touristy place with a great view of the crowd. The had good Jewish artichokes. There were children dressed up for Marti GRAS and some confetti, but it wasn't Rio. Then we walked some more and ended up at Castello San Angelo at dusk. We got a table at the bar there overlooking St. peter's and watched the lights go on. It was really lovely. We had dinner in Campo die Fiori. I thought it was good, and not everyone was a tourist. I had rotini with anchovies and cauliflower, mostly because I wondered what the menu could possibly mean. I liked it.

We've Arrived
The hotel seems very nice. Pretty good wifi. The receptionist suggested we try to get into the Farnese museum this afternoon, so we're heading over there. The weather is great.
March 6, not Jan. 6.
Yesterday it rained all day, most snow had melted.
And in this mornings paper, the intended. Cute. And we will see the play!
Last night I tried to make the delicious chicken we enjoyed at the Honolulu airport. The presentation was lacking, but it tasted good. The soy sauce/honey marinade on the chicken with the pineapple was good.
No picture.
