I had a nice time in NYC-pretty uneventful. Finally made it to the new MOMA and saw some good photography-2 special exhibits, both large format. The museum was mobbed, partly because of the rain, but at $20 a head, I was impressed by how healthy museum attendance is-a good thing. Sat and watched people come in and out for quite a while. Had a pleasant time going to Chan and Sara's and then watching Chiara's game.
The Kaimals left on Saturday while I was gone. It was nice to have them and feel like I helped out with their situation. They were completely undemanding-would leave before I did in the am and did not eat with us, but we would chat when they arrived for the night around 9 pm.
Am in the midst of conference frenzy-thank goodness the Red Sox swept the series or my reports would be very brief. I could just give each parent a piece of paper saying, "Stop worrying. Wait till they're driving!"

We had a lovely weekend. Saturday night we went out with Maya and Guy. The big news with them is that Guy’s book, the Brotherhood, has been bought by HBO and will be made into a series. We spent most of the evening talking about twins. On Sunday Kamala came over and brought us a delicious lunch from Pastrami Queen. We then walked over to Central Park to watch Chiara play. Her team won 1-0. They were playing against Isabella’s team.

Cornell
We had a very good time at Cornell's First Year Family Weekend (FYFW). We were nice and dry in our cabin at Treman State Park as it rained the first 20 hours we were there (we were there for about 24 hours total).
We climbed the tower to see the chimemasters at work, visited the bookstore, of course, one of the libraries, saw Noah's school, from the outside as pictured, and Madhu and I toured the Johnson Art Gallery with incredible views over Ithaca, Cornell and Lake Cayuga.
We stopped at a couple of wineries on the way home, bought some hard cider only. Then we drove to Clifton Springs, where our favorite waiter from Max's has moved to a restaurant called Warfields. Clifton Srpings is a beautiful small Finger Lakes town with an old, brick, well kept hospital, that evidently specializes in holistic medical care!? It was nice to see Jon (waiter) and we had a good meal. If only Brockport would have an entrepreneur to open a good restaurant.
Thanks Noah, that was a fun trip.

Change of plans
Tintin just text messaged to say that he changed his mind and turned around. Don't worry, though, Jo. I have decided to send Tucker instead and his legs are much longer, so he should be there in time for halloween. Then when Tintin comes home, I will Fedex him to Susi for her birthday since the earrings never came.
The Kaimals are coming tonight. Ellissa arrives back from Pittsburgh today. Lorraine and Chandran will spend their days at their house and sleep at our house.
I am still hoping to come down to NYC for the weekend.

dinner
Today is Monday the 22nd and I cannot wait for dinner. We are having baked potatoes with mushrooms and salad. I love salad and baked potatoes and it depends on how they are cooked but mushrooms are OK.

The very useful tripod
The tripod really helped: the bee on the dahlia and the St. John's wort.
Last night we went to the Little and saw THE DARJEELING LIMITED. We had hoped for images of Eliza's Kalimpong and places around there, but it appears to have been shot in Rajistan. It was an amusing movie with the train scenes and location being the attraction. Did you see it Eliza?

Sunrise and bees
This was Friday morning sunrise (10/19). I have a whole series of pictures that look too good to be true. However, evidently I missed an 8 am rainbow.
Also on Friday, I went out to pick some of these dahlia's in anticipation of company and found one or two bees on each blosom, so I left them. This morning I attached my FM macro Nikon lens to my digital Nikon so I could take close-ups of the yard. It works nicely, except, as it would be on the FM, it is on the digital also, I need a tripod.

Go Red Sox!
Had a very nice evening with the Hendricks. They brought a gorgeous orchid. We had a nice morning as well and they are presumaby heading back to Roch.as we speak-Noah had committed to take care of some animal (that's his story and he's sticking with it!) so I was unable to convince them to stay.New couches arrived today and I went and got some throw pillows at Mohr and McPherson with which I'm very happy . Sam's GF Trish came up for the weekend and they are at the movies. Freakishly warm weather-supposed to be in the upper 70s on Monday.
Today
Well, we sat in the living room with house cleaned, dinner prepped, K2 and fam here waiting for Kalyanam and Yoga. At 6 pm popop called and got Kalyanam at work. Our wires really got mixed.
K2 and I interviewed 2 women who clean houses. They gave us an estimate that seemed really high. Hmmmm.
Today, we have a woman and her son cleaning our gutters. Yes, Pam, is climbing the ladder on the lower gutters, son, on the high gutters. ooo...
Jo and I are going to the Science museum at noon to see THE BODY. No one else wants to go!?

Morning Show
There was a fire in the building across the street. The engines arrived at about 6:45 AM. It was Nicky who noticed. He is very much into fire trucks these days and so he looked out the window when he heard the sirens. Not unlike Noah those many years ago. It was very exiting. There were no injuries.
Chiara is taking The Test this morning, it ends at 12:15, and then we will meet up with the Koerner’s for brunch.

Ellissa
Man-this is bad. I'm posting the link. I'd be interested to know what the Kaimals actually said about it.
http://www.elissagrad.com/you need grad and then password is kaimal. It never accepts it the first time for me, but it eventually does.

It's a Small World After All
So I was just trying to relocate Elissa's blog and I googled blogspot+Kaimal/Grad as one of my tries and I got a thread about changing your name when you get married from 2004 and it said "I have a cousin named Kalyani Grad-Kaimal...It was a story about Kalyani thinking her middle name was "hyphen". Cannot figure out who it was -one of Elissa's relatives, I'm sure. Pretty weird, the global village. No luck on the blog though. Sara, do you still have the link?
Prism Concert
We are so lucky to be able to see the music at Brockport schools. Hannah and Jo are in the high school band, jazz band, Hannah in orchestra also. Last night 1/3 of the student body was on stage for a concert: the 9/10, and 11/12 grade bands, jazz bands, the 9/10 and 11/12 choirs, the mad vocals, the trible quartet, swing choir etc. all performed 1 piece each, then the grand finally- everyone doing one peice together.
It was grand! We got a handicapped parking place cuz someone left as we pulled in, otherwise we would have been in a far lot.
Popop has been advised to have a new pacemaker with a defibrillator attached. Have any of you been reading the NYTimes about such devices, (Monday, front page, Tuesday business page)? We will go along with the best advice from Dr. Veron, the cardiologist highly recomended by Ashwani, of course. It is scheduled for Nov. 14. It is an overnight hospital stay with 1 week of no driving. The problem is a faulty wire, by one company that has been recalled.
What is up with you all?

High Hopes
I still have high hopes that Susi's gift will arrive.
What will I make for dinner for Uncle and Yoga? Will they like sesame noodles?
Jo...Hellooo. What do you want-clothes, jewelry, a little white dog? Or a larger beige and white dog, perhaps? Or maybe both, but that would also be your Christmas gift. As well as Buster's.

visits, couches and paint
So today I ordered two new couches from Crate and Barrell (Two Oxford sofas in Dublin Cafe). The outside painting has started. This weekend Uncle and Yoga are coming Saturday late afternoon and spending the night. I've invited Chuck and Cynthia for dinner. Sunday there is a party to celebrate the 20th (!) anniversary of Paige moving into her home in Brookline. The following weekend Ewa, Jess and Noah are coming Friday so Noah can look at Berklee. We are also expecting Sam's girlfriend, Trish. Guess I'll do some cleaning!
News from NY
We just came back from The Brearley School, where we had our first private school tour and interview (three more to go). I think it went well, though being the first it was very much a learning experience. On the whole it was easier than I thought and Chiara seemed very cheerful about the whole process.
In other news Chiara’s team won last Sunday’s match, Chandran was coaching.
Chandran and I went to Carnegie Hall on Saturday for a performance of Mahler’s third. It was wonderful.
The twins are doing well, enjoying school. Laura has become quite proficient in coloring; she can pretty much stay within the lines even when she uses paints. Nicky is completely diaper free, even at night, something that Lara is not quite ready for.

Calendar Photos
I need photos of Ashwani, Kalyani, Jo and Madhu for next year’s calendar. I have noticed that lately I mostly take photos of the twins. If you could send them to me via blog it would be great.
Thanks
Thanks
So frustrating
I have a great new camera, and I can't figure out how to do the simplest things with it! I've spent 47 minutes I can't spare...
Anyway. Bluff Island from our camp in the morning. We had a lovely time sitting on the cliff the day before sunning ourselves. Great view. You can't tell how high it is from the pictures.
Susi figured out how to do the timer. I couldn't. That's why everyone is laughing.

O.K. here goes
You know, this is not easy!
The canoe trip was great. Hard (well used back and shoulders), beautiful (paper said the color was peak. to me it was on early side of peak. the reds were there, but the yellows were still green), and fun. (we had 5 canoes, with folks from Germany, as well as Roc, people that Jim Ison works with. good company), warmer than usual (we swam, not just a dip in and quickly out, but we stayed in quite awhile.)
Well, there it is. Kalyani has better pics I am sure. For me, one of the highlights was on the way home. Susi and I sang, then we played games, then after dark (6 hour trip), Kly suggested I tell Susi stories from childhood. I first thought, there is nothing interesting there, but after I started (4th grade in Denver, L.A. and Spokane) I could not stop. I think Susi fell asleep.
Ahem
Waiting for a canoe trip blog with or without pix.
Nothing much here. Deloitte is doing an article on Jim's Iron Man stuff and he came home early to have pictures taken (by Eliza). Will send the article on when it comes out. We are having the entire exterior and partial interior of our house painted (for TG!). See, I can post about really boring stuff-you don't have to be fascinating!
