It's raining here a bit.

On the way to the parking lot, that whirpool is over the drain

Laura, at the 'Ancient' playground in central park. The weather was soooo warm and glorious that the park was mobbed. Chandran, Sara, Madhu and I went to a matinee (Times Stands Still with Laura Linney) and walked back from the play through the park.

Chiara came back with us, she made Lemon Squares.

Bad news for me, the uinpleasant MRI revealed a substantial tear in my shoulder. The surgery is easy, the recuperation is long and hard, I was told by my doctor. And, it will not heal on its own.

Update on my Life at URI

I'm up early to finish studying/get ready for a macroeconomics exam, so I thought I'd procrastinate a little and write a blog post. I changed my major to a BS in economics this semester, I took microecon last semester and liked it a lot, plus it's a pretty topical major these days, I suppose.

We're experiencing the good weather down here too, last week it was 50 and sunny most days, the weekend was rainy and miserable, but yesterday it was in the low-60s all day. People are dressing like it's 80 out though. To get outside more, I've been out longboarding with my friend Jeff and his roommate.
It's like skateboarding but easier to balance on, and you can pick up and maintain a pretty fast speed on it. I've been learning on Jeff's roomate's 700 dollar board, so I'm a bit spoiled.

Spring break starts Friday for URI (the dorm closes at 6pm sharp on friday, which is is weird and will clog up the roads on campus enough to make leaving a living hell). My plan is to stay home for the weekend (dentist appointment on monday), and probably head to Manhattan for a few days.

I'll take some pictures and post them later today if it's nice out.

First Sunny Day

Well, not really, but it has been awhile! Buster and I surveyed our domain just now. I made a list of jobs to be done. I will hire someone!!!! (hopefully)

Anyway, the spring state of the water level is a little lower than normal. The 'moat' does not surround both of the pines. The 'pond' seems as high as usual, but I think I will blame the willows that are growing like weeds there. Maybe this summer I can find someone with a small back hoe to uproot those willows. after the pond dries up. My memory says that I planted some of those willows from sticks gathered at the lake house.

MRI

I had an MRI today, and that is the last one and the first one, that I will ever have. It was soooo unpleasant. It was to see what is wrong with my shoulder. My instinct says, I will get over it, it may take awhile, but this procedure was unnecessary. It was unbelievably loud (jack hammer) and painful. The pain was because the device used to stabilize the shoulder pressed into the problem.

This is good-

Hello Everyone!
Last Thursday (March 11) evening there was an RPO concert. Before the concert started, I was in the men's room washing my hands and I see Wallace Shawn! (For the younger set, they may know him from Gossip Girls, Clueless and Princess Bride). I say to him: Are you Wallace Shawn (I think I may have said "Wally"). He says: Yes, I am. I tell him that I am honored to meet him in person. I shake his hands and tell him that I have seen most of his movies and what is he doing in Rochester? His brother Allen Shawn is a music professor at Bennington and has composed a violin concerto especially for RPO's concert-mistress Juliana Athayde. Thursday was its world premiere. He starts leaving but when he reaches the door, he stops, holds the door open for me and starts asking me questions: whether I am a resident of Rochester and so on. I tell him about the Little Theatre's first movie was "My Dinner with Andre", which we saw twice. He also says that he attended the rehearsal that afternoon and Juliana was fantastic. I mention that she is only 29. Then we part company. I told Mom about it when I got to my seat and felt that we should invite him for dinner next evening. We did not, of course, but I would have been really tempted if I had run into him during the intermission.

Official Felix Votes! [post #1,000 wooooo]

Felix

Buster outdid himself this year, I think. We have Helen Mirren, Precious, Clooney. Hurt Locker--he hated it. Avatar? Pocahantas in blue. And it's the soundtrack from Sherlock Holmes that speaks to Buster.

post #997! who will be #1000???

Get your ballots in if you haven't (and Kalyani, etc)!
I have mom's, Sam's, Uncle Chan's, Aunt Sara's, Popop's, Grandma's, and Noah's.
I'll post the complete list at 7 tonight.
Really nice weather yesterday and Hannah was visiting with Kelsey. Went into Boston with them, Sam, my friend Sofie. Saw a 3D Imax movie at the aquarium about surfing in Tahiti. Walked around. 'Twas nice.

Chiara is Home!

Back from Portugal last night.

I love reading the blog this morning. The Memorial service, snow, Felix (we had better look into that quickly). My thought is that it should be printed, it is such a good record, not only the posts, but the comments.

Well, we returned last night after a very long day of travel from Lisbon, to Frankfort (airport) to Phil. to home. The Frankfort-Philly leg was on Envoy class, thank you Ison! That makes a huge difference. Some photos, more on my flickr account.

Top: view from 'our' apt in Lisbon. next: a delicious meal.
