Finger Lakes Day

Watkin's Glen

The new landscape architects with trowels

We had a nice day in the finger lakes yesterday. We went to Rachel's graduation party near Dundee. It was at a nursery; food, weather and company were all excellent. It was catered by my friend Ann's sister. Before the party we went for a walk in Watkins Glen. We took a shuttle to the top and walked down. I kept wondering how many of the people walking up were unaware of the shuttle.

It was a very nice party. One of the many delicious creations was pizza on the grill with ramp and nettles and feta cheese. It was soooo good.

What is ramp? And what part of the nettle is edible? Just yesturday, on a walk, we passed some full grown, hairy stinging nettles and I was wondering what part of the nettle is edible? Funny this should come up on your blog today!

The leaves are edible, they are very nutritious. You need to use gloves to harvest them, and chop them up, but after they are cooked they are really good. Ramps are wild onions. We have them in our yard. These little pizzas were sooo good.
